Interesting Look at my new ClustrMaps

I added the little ClustrMaps feature which basically traces your IP address to a location (semi-accurate I would figure) and then plots it onto this world map at the bottom of the sidebar over here. This should be a fun little tool. Either way, looking at my traffic for the first day you can extract some interesting information about my webpage. First, it seems that I am not getting very much traffic. Ah. It is so relaxing to have such an exciting blog. Where was I now? Oh yea, second, I believe that in fact two people have look at this site today. One was myself and the other seems to be someone from India. Don’t get my wrong here, I am sure my content could in fact attract an Indian viewer, however it is much more likely that instead it was simply the spam bots traversing the finer strands of the internet looking for another blog to riddle with the usual advertisements we’d all rather not see.

Again, a review of my traffic is below:

Just me and the spammer

Oh well. I hope they enjoy it as much as anyone else does.

Installing Windows XP to a SATA drive on a A8N-SLI Deluxe

I have had some problems installing Windows XP onto a SATA drive for boot on my Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe.

My setup is as follows:
74 gig Raptor on the boot
2 x 500 GB SATA raid-1 for my bootlegs
500 GB drive is just for games and junk, music, etc

Remember, SATA drives are a bit too new for the old XP installer and you need to load drivers from the disk.

Anyway, the install went fine but after the final install sequence upon reboot I would get errors such as “Missing Operating System”. Other times I got lucky and passed that one but then the system would blue screen on boot. Some suggestions were to change your bios settings. This sounds unreasonable as the latest bios has worked fine before this reconfiguration.

It gets really frustrating after four or five reinstalls, with some full formats sometimes just to be sure. Either way. Finally I have come up with a winning solution to get everything going. I had to do was install XP with only the Raptor plugged in. Soon as I did that, it was cake. The bootloader was getting screwed up because of how the system reads the BIOS for SATA drives.

Joe’s Music Picks for April 2007

Back again with another edition of Joe’s Music Picks.  March has brought good things musically to the people of Hooville.  Highlights include not only Tea Leaf Green, Larry Keel and Natural Bridge, but also the upcoming Galactic concert.  Spring is upon us, let the music warm our hearts.  Music brings all the people together, it brings “we over me”.

Looking ahead, April is going to be solid.

04/05: Antibalas*
04/11: Toubab Krewe* or Trans Am, Zombi, and Psychic Paramount`
04/19: Robert Randolph & The Family Band^
04/22: Acid Mothers Temple`
04/26: Rose Hill Drive`
04/28: Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band#

* Starr Hill
` Satellite Ballroom
^ Charlottesville Pavilion
# Outback Lodge

Grudge Match of the month is Toubab Krewe vs Trans Am.  I’m still not sure which I will goto, new age indy craziness or good old hippy get down.  I dig the psychic electronic sound of indy and am more or less just discovering it.  Major props to Satellite for delivering the goods.  On the other hand, I haven’t ever caught Toubab and would love to see them take Starr Hill down.  Acid Mothers Temple is a must see.  Touring from Japan, AMT shows America how psychedelic rock is done.

Will Satellite continue bringing the goods and top the big guy on the hill’s lame top 40 replays or will Starr Hill wake up and deliver some quality music over the rehashed RIAA quick bucks?  I hope so because competition is good.  If not for that you get the same old garbage.  Starr Hill used to deliver in spades twice a week, now we are lucky to get the phatty goodness twice a month.  All things equal though, Coran does bring the love through the Pavilion and perhaps the Jefferson will reopen as a premere midsize venue, however only time will tell.

Did I miss anything?  Let me know.

Leftover Salmon Reunites!

It is a miracle people! The great original in slam grass Leftover Salmon is back for some festivals this year. Playing at both High Sierra Music Festival and All Good 2007, these guys are looking to jam for us all. Here are the dates:

High Sierra Music Festival
July 7 – 8, 2007
Quincy, CA

All Good Music Festival
July 15, 2007
Masontown, WV

A little sentimental touch… I haven’t seen Leftover since I went to my very first music concert back in 1996, Charlotte, NC for Widespread Panic. Leftover opened and played during the set break for the Spread. Quite a gap I have had; not seeing them in over 10 years! Anyway, perhaps this will motivate me to hit the Sierras for once. Why not travel all the way across the county to see them once, only to travel back across the country to see them again?

Please remember Larry Keel is coming to Starr Hill this Thursday and you can see some more kickin’ slam grass.

Joe’s Music Picks for March 2007

Charlottesville is finally livening up for some jams. Satellite Ballroom has a little love coming, and Starr Hill awakens from a weaker winter season.-

3/10 – Guano Boys @ Satellite
3/20 – Tea Leaf Green (Opening:William Walter & Co.)
3/22 – Larry Keel & The Natural Bridge
3/28 – Galactic (rescheduled from 2/11)
3/31 – Hackensaw Boys

Starr Hill has lined up four excellent bands in the final two weeks of March. Hopefully the venue can deliver some solid bands for the Spring but so far we have only a twinkle of the energy delivered in 2006. Looking forward, April is already highlighted by Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra hailing from Brooklyn and Toubab Krewe from Asheville, NC.

On the Corner we always have the Wednesday Night Music Showcase at Orbits, which showcases bands from Charlottesville. You never know what guests might play, previously members of Parliament sat in during some Man Mountain Jr. Meanwhile, In April Satellite Ballroom will feature Acid Mothers Temple; a psychedelic rock band from Japan.

Virginia LOSING ALL RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES

Please everyone write your legislator as we are nearing a time when Dominion gets another monopoly after we just were freed from it.

Del. Harvey Morgan, R-Gloucester, warned that Hogan’s measure could help an already prospering Dominion to get even richer at the expense of its 2 million Virginia customers. He also suggested “re-regulation” is being rammed through the legislature in too much of a rush.

From Bill to end electricity deregulation clears Senate – DailyProgress

I wrote the State Corporation Commission to make sure what was happening is true and this was the response:

As the legislation now stands, it would end retail electric choice for residential and most business customers. That would include the 1,335 retail customers in Virginia currently receiving their electricity supply service from a competitive supplier providing renewable energy options. The proposed legislation includes incentives for utilities like Dominion Virginia Power to use renewable sources of energy through voluntary renewable portfolio standards.

Live painting from 01/05/07: Frankfest @ The Canal Club, Richmond, VA

oh yeah, Joe? you had a few predictions and resolutions, did you? well i had a few myself, and they are these:

to continue to try and to manage more and more responsibilities at work and at home. this includes the art thing. balance is key and something i’m trying to achieve without it overwhelming/frustrating me. what can i say? i can be lazy.

to be a better counselor at the group home that i work for.

to not worry so much and to enjoy things more.

and finally, to create more live paintings this year than i ever have prior. so, with that in mind, Friday night was a nice little kick off to the year at Frankfest. check out my blog for specifics if you’re interested…here’s the painting in the meantime, lovelies.

Happy New Year

Potomac River, Washington DC, 2006-12-29
Happy New Year everyone. Yes, the blog has been neglected for some time, but please do not interpret that as me not caring. Remember, I pay for this shiz so obviously I am going to use it. I try not to do sappy goals, but I believe last year I resolved to see more music than I had ever before and it happened. I will do a yearly round up soon. Again, let’s keep resolutions realistic:

1. Tape more music. I saw a lot and could have taped more… well not much more but still.
2. Challenge my mind. I want to read more and expand my horizons some. This can include sports, friends and just acquiring new skills.
3. Be a better person. This involves being patient and understanding for everyone. I want to respect my sisters and brothers the best I can and hope for the same.
4. Keep on being me and being free.

5.23423424234234. Yes it is decimal because we know it probably won’t happen but I want to do a blog post every week. Perhaps some poetry too.

I owe you all a lot of pictures and sketchy videos. They will be delivered.

Peace out you all and have a great year.

Joe’s Predictions:

2007 will suck more than 2006. I am sorry but I think it will happen. We’ll have a good run with the democrats controlling congress and the senate, however ‘ole Dub-ya will veto the crap out of stuff. He doesn’t seem to be on the side of the people. We will see a growth of people wanting the general good for the earth, however corruption will play a key part in the downfall of some great parts. Open source will spur the private sector to invest greatly into the future.

2008 will bring the end of the darker times. The Middle East will be a disaster however, in that wake people will gain a common appreciation for each other.

2009 has gains in the technological field including unfathomable processing capacity along with the advent of a more flexible programming language that makes software easier and less prone to bugs. This will be supported by an open source movement.

2010 will bring the end to storage problems for personal data.

2011 all information will finally be free.

2012. We’ll see what happens at the end of the Mayan calendar. The human capacity to acknowledge and consume information will become infinitely more accessible, giving rise to unlimited knowledge.

People will recognize that we are connected in many more ways that what appears. Thoughts and ideas will be more easily shared.
